How did Legal Nurse Consulting Institute, LLC get started?
Through their involvement in the Central Virginia Chapter of the American Association of
Legal Nurse Consultants (AALNC), Angie and Dana were frequently approached by nurses interested in
taking a course but had trouble finding a course with which they were comfortable. LNCI was created to offer
clinically experienced registered nurses affordable, live classes throughout the mid Atlantic
region. The course is designed to provide hands on practice working on case analysis.
Can I really be successful as a legal nurse consultant?
Yes you can! Almost all legal nurse consultants felt the same way you feel right now when they first started out. You are probably scared, yet excited, about this new field in nursing. As a clinically experienced RN you already have the skills necessary to interpret medical records. Legal Nurse Consulting Institute, LLC, will show you how to use your medical knowledge to analyze medical records and place this information into a concise tool that the attorney can use while developing his/her case.
Why should I consider Legal Nurse Consulting Institute vs. another legal nurse consulting course?
LNCI is taught by successful legal nurse consultants with active independent practices in a live classroom format. The four modules are designed to give a novice LNC the skills and knowledge needed to get started in this exciting field.
The course is affordable and offered regionally.
You will have the opportunity to develop actual work product and conduct medical research in a computer lab. You will become part of an instant network with your classmates.
How much clinical experience do you need to be a legal nurse consultant?
In order to be able to provide informed opinions about the medical care and
outcomes, extensive clinical experience is needed. If you would not classify your clinical experience as extensive yet, you are encouraged to take the introductory class and determine if legal nurse consulting is for you. Once you know more about the specialty, you can decide if you’d like to pursue more education in the field while you continue to gain essential clinical experience.
Why is Principles and Practice of Legal Nurse Consulting required?
This text is the core curriculum (AKA “The Bible”) of legal nurse consulting. The LNCI course is based on this text. The text will be referenced during the course. If you are serious about becoming a legal nurse consultant this book is essential.
Where can I purchase the Principles and Practices of Legal Nurse Consulting book?
You can purchase the book directly through the AALNC at http://www.aalnc.org/edupro/profresources/landing.cfm .

Are computer skills necessary to take the course?
Yes. We produce a computerized work product and transmit that work product electronically. Legal nurse consultants must be proficient with Word, Excel, electronic mail and searching the internet. LNCI does not teach computer skills. There are infinite classes available in virtually all localities. Check your local chamber of commerce or the public library if your employer does not offer classes. If you are not proficient in computer skills and the software programs listed above, you should take a computer class prior to Modules 3 and 4 as both of these modules utilize the computer.
What is a Module?
’Modules’ is another name for class. Legal Nurse Consulting Institute’s program is set up with four class modules. Each module consists of one day.
What do all of the dates mean under each Module?
On the curriculum page, there are multiple dates listed under each module. You may select one of these dates to attend that particular module.
What time does class start? What time does it end?
Registration and continental breakfast begin at 7:45 AM. Class begins promptly at 8:15 am and ends at 5:00 PM.
How do I get to the class location?
The address is 800 Moorefield Park Drive Richmond, VA 23236. It is located on Midlothian Turnpike. Go to www.mapquest.com and insert the Moorefield Park Drive address and your address to get exact directions to the class location from your home.
Are CEU’s offered?
Yes. The new terminology for CEU’s is continuing nursing education (CNE). Each module offers 7 CNE hours. 28 CNE are awarded for the course.
Do you offer certification?
No. You will receive a certificate awarding continuing nursing education hours after each Legal Nurse Consulting Institute module. You will not be ‘certified’ as a legal nurse consultant upon completion of the program.
Board certification is offered through the American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants (AALNC) and administered by the American Legal Nurse Consultant Certification Board. The certification is the LNCC, Legal Nurse Consultant, Certified. The LNCC is the only certification in legal nurse consulting accredited by the American Board of Nursing Specialties and recognized by the AALNC and American Nurses Association (ANA). To qualify for the certification examination one must have at least 2000 hours of billable work as a LNC in the prior (3) years. For more information, please visit: http://www.aalnc.org/lncc/
Do I need to be certified?
No. Certification is a goal that dedicated legal nurse consultants may strive to reach. It is not mandatory or necessary in order to be a successful legal nurse consultant.
Do you offer a mentorship or job placement once the course is completed?
LNCI is pleased to announce an affiliation with Rose Clifford’s LNC Internship program. Only registered nurses who have completed an accepted legal nurse consulting education program may participate in this internship program. For more information please go to: http://www.medanalysisresources.com/internships/. When inquiring about this internship program, please mention you were referred by LNCI. We do not offer job placement services.
